REASONS TO STUDY MEDICINE ABROAD

IN ENGLISH

1. TOP MEDICINE STUDY PROGRAMS IN ENGLISH

There are a lot of advantages to studying medicine abroad compared to studying medicine in the US or Canada.
Unfortunately, European medical schools are seen as average or not equal to medical schools in the US or Canada. However, this is a misconception.
Medical Universities in Europe comprise some of the best universities in the world and offer top quality education programs.
European medical schools must adhere to the European Union standards and are equal to a lot of leading medical schools in the United States, such as Harvard, Yale, Cornell, etc.
Thousands of distinguished doctors in the United States have graduated from some of these schools in Europe and most of us who leave in the United States have probably been treated or seen by doctors who are practicing medicine in the US but were educated abroad.

2. SHORT DURATION OF STUDIES (5-6 YEARS)

Medical education and training vary considerably across the world.
In the US or Canada, a potential medical student must first complete an undergraduate degree in general science or pre-med before applying to a graduate medical school to pursue an (M.D. or D.O) program thus making the duration of studies 8 years.
In Europe, students get into medical school right after high-school. Most universities have 6-year programs for medicine and veterinary medicine, and 5-year programs for pharmacy and dentistry.
The students do 3 years of theoretical studies and 3 years of clinical practice, therefore getting a lot of hands-on experience examining and treating real patients coming in contact with real studies.
Some universities are starting to offer 4-year programs for international students who have done undergraduate studies.

3. LOW TUITION FEES

Most students are not aware that they can study for less than a thousand euros per year, or even for free, in many European countries.
Tuition fees in Europe are generally very low compared to other continents, while many European universities belong to the top. So it is possible to get a top quality education for very reasonable costs.
Studying abroad in Europe is therefore very popular nowadays.
Of course, this differs per country though, and it also depends if you come from Europe (the European Economic Area) or not.
In Austrian universities, there are no tuition fees for students from EU-EEA member countries, Switzerland and least developed countries. All the others pay a fee of about €800 per year.
The average tuition fees in Eastern European Universities for international Bachelor programs is €4.500 for EEA students and €8.600 for non-EEA students.
The average tuition fees for an international Master’s program in Europe is around €5.100 for students from within the EEA, and €10.170 for students from outside the EEA.

4. LOW COST OF LIVING

5. SAFE AND FRIENDLY ENVIRONMENT

Sending your child off to study abroad is a stressful experience.

6. UNIVERSITY ENTRANCE PROCESS MUCH SIMPLER

The entrance requirements vary quite dramatically. Universities in Central Europe have their own entrance exams, although in Bulgaria and Romania they are not always required.
The exams in some Eastern and Central European universities of medicine consist of a multiple choice exam in chemistry and biology.
If you can get a good grade in high school in these subjects, you shouldn’t have any trouble passing the exam.
