The University of Belgrade

The University of Belgrade is the oldest and largest university in Serbia. It consists of 31 faculties with around 90,000 students, as well as 11 research institutes, the university library, and 7 university centres, most of which are located in the capital city.

According to the latest ranking of universities around the world, better known as the “Shanghai ranking list”, the University of Belgrade has been ranked among the best 400 universities in the world.

Faculties of the University are organised in 4 groups: social sciences and humanities, sciences and mathematics, medical sciences, and technology and engineering sciences.

Faculties of Medical Sciences

    • School of Medicine – provides integrated and doctoral studies of medicine, and a number of academic and applied programmes in nursing, public health and related disciplines.
    • Faculty of Dentistry – offers integrated and doctoral studies of dentistry and applied studies in related disciplines.
    • Faculty of Veterinary Medicine – provides education in veterinary medicine at all levels of studies;
    • Faculty of Pharmacy – provides integrated and doctoral studies in pharmacy and a number of specialist study programmes in related disciplines.

The University of Medicine in Belgrade, Serbia is a constituent institution of the University of Belgrade, which offers a wide range of academic courses in Serbian and English, including specialist practice within a network of hospitals, institutes and medical clinics. The School of Medicine includes 40 departments with over 200 professorships.
The Belgrade Medical School offers a six-year program leading to a MD degree (Doctor of Medicine) for international students. The language of instruction is English and the curriculum corresponds to the same one as the Serbian students use. The studies are conducted within the school premises as well as teaching facilities in Belgrade, such as the University Hospital Center or Institute of Mental Health.
The School was established in 1920, when the first lecture was held by the anatomy professor Niko Miljanić. Since then, over 30000 students graduated from this institution, including circa 850 international students. The studies last 12 semesters and are organized within the integral curriculum.
