The study plan of the Integrated Master at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Portugal (MIMV-IUEM) is based on an innovative logic, based on teaching that aims at integration, specialization, professionalization, internationalization and globalization and values ​​global health, having underlying the importance of the relationships between animal health, human health and environmental health (One Health). The curricular units are distributed in a modular way throughout the semester, favoring the acquisition of subjects in a sequential and integrated logic. This study plan and innovative teaching methodology is based on other European and World reference institutions and contrasts with that currently used in other national and international schools, contributing to enhance the multiple professional opportunities and employability in Veterinary Medicine.

The Integrated Master in Veterinary Medicine at Egas Moniz University is based on rigorous teaching, with a very strong practical component and tutorial guidance based on Problem Based Learning, in which the student assumes a central role in their learning. This guarantees a very solid practical and clinical experience, providing our graduates with a real and global view of the realities of Veterinary Medicine and empowering them with real practical skills, from the first day of work.

The Integrated Master in Veterinary Medicine at Egas Moniz University will be taught in its own facilities, which include, among others, clinical structures, including the Veterinary Hospital for Companion and Exotic Animals, Equines and Livestock Species, teaching and research laboratories. All infrastructures were designed from scratch and specifically for the teaching of Veterinary Sciences.

The Integrated Master’s Degree in Veterinary Medicine has a vast network of partnerships allowing students to access the respective facilities of excellence in the different areas of Veterinary Science, taking into account the specific valence of each curricular unit. Several public and private institutions are part of the pedagogical and scientific cooperation network, in the various areas of knowledge of Veterinary Sciences, and aim to achieve the degree of excellence, integration and specialization that characterize this cycle of studies.

Learning objectives

The University’s general objective is to provide excellent, integrated and professional training that guarantees the training of technical staff for the major areas of Veterinary Medicine activities, including Clinical, Public Health, Animal Production and Technological Processing, Inspection and Sanitary Support at the interface of Animal Production, Quality Control and Environmental and Sanitary Control from a One Health perspective, Teaching and Research within the scope of Veterinary Sciences.

The proposed curricular program has as more specific objectives to train Veterinarians qualified to:

– Promote health care and animal welfare;

– Contribute to the management and development of animal production systems;

– Prevent, diagnose and control zoo-noses and enzootic diseases;

– Ensure the quality of food products of animal origin;

– Contribute to environmental protection;

– Promote and develop scientific research activities.

The course is taught in English, thus allowing the globalization of teaching and the internationalization of students and Veterinarians trained at this Institution. Students really evolve in a multicultural and international context. There is no equivalent alternative in Portugal.

The study plan is innovative and is based on a teaching methodology for Veterinary Medicine that is different from the other offers in Portugal, with an integrated curricular model in a multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary way, facilitating a more logical sequential understanding of the subjects to be learned by students. The subjects are taught in an integrated way and the curricular units are not separated from each other by themes, but integrated in a multidisciplinary way, so that the student has an integrated understanding of each theme. This will be the only Veterinary Medicine course taught in this way in Portugal and one of the few in Europe. The study plan followed is identical to reference entities in the teaching of Veterinary Medicine at European and World level.
It is an eminently practical course, in which the student assumes a central role in their training under a strict tutorial guidance and based on Problem Based Learning, ensuring an efficient acquisition of skills.

DEGREES
Graduates of Veterinary Medicine obtain the academic degree “Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.

All courses are fully accredited by the Portuguese Regulatory Agency – A3ES and Egas Moniz Institution is at 9th place in the national SCIMAGO ranking, and 1st among private institutions in Portugal.

DURATION OF STUDY AND TUITION FEES:
The duration of study for Veterinary Medicine is 5,5 years.
Tuition fees for EU citizens 9,996 Euros paid in 12 installments.
Tuition fees for Non – EU citizens 12,333 Euros paid in 12 installments.

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: 
50% and above in Biology in the last year of High School and the High School Diploma cannot be older than 2 years.
